SUPERSAURUS describe themselves as a “non-binary-fronted pop girl band aka your new favourite girls, gays, and theys band”. With an eclectic array of influences spanning 80s pop to MUNA, the young London-based four-piece makes an impression with an infectious sound that satisfyingly straddles the line between between nostalgia and novelty.
With ‘Wish I’d Never Met You’ (released February 23) SUPERSAURUS have once again delivered familiarity in a fun, fresh package. This is 2000s revival done right, with very well-placed distortion elements and some crisp bass and guitar progressions. Plus, it’s one of those songs that everyone has someone from their past they might like to dedicate it to.
There’s venom in the lyrics, sure (“I hate everything about you”) and angst in the vocal performance, but the lively, almost jovial end product is such an effective antidote against the anger the song conveys that you’re likely to scream along with a supersized smile on your face. Great if you’re post break-up or moved on, and up for having a laugh about the bad times; definitely one to help you dance yourself into cathartic bliss.
