‘acid flower’ by ventrelles: a psych-shoegaze trip

by aura

Ventrelles are “formed from the embers of past collectives and distant echoes of teenage knock about bands”. And believe me, it shows. They have a very definite sound that suggests more experience than other bands releasing music in the experimental realm.

With their latest release ‘Acid Flower’, they’re bringing some interesting – and much needed, in my humble opinion- fusion to the indie table. The song has this shoegaze canvas upon which the song develops, adding a beat that brings movement to the soundscape, and then we are introduced to psychedelic elements that, paired with the lyrics, tie everything together to make you go “ohhhh, Acid Flower!”.

To be fair, I’m not the biggest fan of the most known psychedelic or acid rock exponents, but there’s something to be said of the fun and freshness these elements bring into other genres. The songs get a dreamy and contemplative quality to them, while at the same time becoming filled with playful fun. In other words, it’s a vibe. And Ventrelles know how to vibe just right.
