sound check: mil1ion by apollo junction

apollo junction’s newest single will fire you up!

Described by the band as “a song about the people who mean the world to us”, Mil1ion offers up just over three minutes of wildly inspirational, searing synth-pop seasoned with rock sensibility.

The track, the fifth single off Apollo Junction’s upcoming album, ‘Here We Are’, kicks off with a punchy guitar intro that calls to mind the hearty punk-rock-pop stew of the early 2000s. Once punctuated by a few skillful whacks of the drums, it blasts off into a bouncy, synth-laden melody that spans decades of musical influence, with a chorus that just may rival the catchiest earworms ever created. (Seriously, this WILL be pinging around your head for days).

Not that you’re likely to mind in the slightest.

The almost speak-sung verses and sparing, but playful pops of vocal distortion provide an ideal foil for the delightfully infectious chorus. Lyrically, the song begins with 27 seconds of fierce validation that could easily double as daily affirmations, if one were inclined to sing along into their mirror. This is balanced against the more insistent tone of the chorus, offering a stirring call to action for those prone to self-doubt and anyone sitting on suppressed desires or stalled dreams.

Hey, you’re running out of time
Put it on the line
You’re one in a million

Hey, you’re running out time
You’ve gotta live your life
You’re one in a million

Mil1ion chorus

The overall effect is something akin to a blow torch being used to light (or reignite) the proverbial fire under the listener’s ass, in the best possible way. The song blazes, but never, ever scalds.

Mil1ion will surely be a crowd-rousing addition to the setlist for the band’s fall UK tour.
